Becoming a professional lawyer—whether in terms of study, the development of specialized skills, or the cultivation and accumulation of practice—is a journey that can never be undertaken too thoroughly. That’s why I don’t think it’s necessary to dwell excessively on the transitional phase. Many accomplished lawyers who have been practicing for years continue to approach their work with unwavering diligence. Even after decades in the profession, when others already regard them as seasoned experts, they still refuse to rest, constantly striving to refine and elevate their craft.

I believe there are at least two paths to professionalization: one is the “practice makes perfect” kind, which relies on a sufficient volume of work to develop expertise gradually as one engages in the field; the other arises from self-directed learning, where continuous study of theoretical knowledge and real-world industry cases enables one to become an expert in a particular area. The choice depends on the individual, and perhaps a combination of both approaches would be even more effective.
