On July 13, Mr. Zafar-Ud-Din Mahmood, Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Pakistan for China Affairs, Chairman of the “Understanding China” Forum in Pakistan, and Policy Advisor to the Secretary-General of the Boao Forum for Asia, paid a visit to Taihe Law Firm. The firm’s Director Xu Guojin, Executive Committee Chairwoman Julie, and Chief Operating Officer Xu Min extended a warm welcome.
Mr. Zafar first came to China in 1976 as a student and subsequently served as the Economic and Commercial Counselor at the Pakistani Embassy in China, the first Consul General in Shanghai, and the Special Envoy for the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, among other posts, accumulating more than fifty years of engagement with China. In 2025, he was awarded the Friendship Ambassador Prize at the second Orchid Awards.
Accompanied by Taihe’s partners, Mr. Zafar and his delegation first toured Taihe’s office facilities, gaining insight into the firm’s development journey and its corporate culture. They then watched a promotional video about Taihe and listened to an overview of the firm, further deepening their understanding of Taihe’s distinctive strengths and notable achievements in the field of international legal services.
At the symposium, both sides engaged in an in-depth exchange, focusing on economic cooperation between Jiangsu Province and Pakistan’s Punjab Province. They unanimously agreed to actively facilitate targeted matchmaking between Jiangsu-based private enterprises and their Pakistani counterparts, leverage legal services to provide safeguards as businesses expand overseas, bolster investor confidence, and bring a number of projects to fruition, thereby advancing and deepening economic cooperation between the two provinces.
The meeting proposed that Taihe will actively explore establishing a branch or liaison office in Lahore, Pakistan, to provide on‑site services to enterprises from both countries, enhance the responsiveness and reliability of its legal advisory offerings, and deliver sustained, locally tailored support for economic cooperation between the two provinces. At the same time, leveraging its platform advantages, Taihe will systematically identify Pakistan’s collaborative needs across multiple sectors, organize the dissemination of relevant laws, regulations, and policy information pertaining to investment in Pakistan, and help Jiangsu‑based enterprises gain a deeper understanding of the local business environment, seize investment opportunities, and mitigate compliance risks—thereby ensuring that their overseas investments proceed smoothly and in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Mr. Zafar expressed his approval and anticipation for the aforementioned cooperation initiative. He noted that China and Pakistan enjoy a time-honored friendship and a solid foundation of bilateral cooperation, and he hopes that both sides will further strengthen communication and coordination in the legal services sector, engage in mutual learning and exchange, and jointly create a more convenient and standardized legal environment for business cooperation between the two countries, thereby advancing the implementation of more practical outcomes.
This symposium and exchange further deepened mutual understanding between the two sides and opened up new avenues for Taihe to expand its cooperation in cross-border legal services. Taking this exchange as an opportunity, Taihe will proactively serve as a bridge and facilitator, contributing its professional expertise to fostering friendly exchanges and economic and trade cooperation between China and Brazil.
