Once, the word “lawyer” to me was the solemn figure in a black robe on television, a distant symbol of sharp rhetoric and fierce debate in books. It shimmered in others’ stories, yet never truly illuminated my own ordinary world—until the autumn of 2020, when I stepped onto the campus of Jiangsu Ocean University and encountered law by chance, only then realizing that law is not some lofty set of rules and statutes, but rather the warmth and order that flow through the cracks of everyday life.
Throughout my four years of university, I engaged in a quiet dialogue with the law. From the solemn preamble of the Constitution to the nuanced protection of rights enshrined in the Civil Code, from the profound depth of criminal theory to the meticulous rigor of procedural law, I gradually came to grasp the true texture of the legal system. The late-night hours spent poring over texts and the spirited intellectual exchanges in class alike became nourishment for my growth. Earning the university’s Third-Class Scholarship for two consecutive years stands as a gentle testament to this journey, reinforcing my conviction that every act of perseverance will ultimately resonate.
My internship in the second half of my senior year at the Lianyungang Municipal People’s Procuratorate was my first real foray into the practical world of law. The case files were no longer just cold, impersonal text; they contained the lived experiences of real people. And judicial procedures ceased to be mere flowcharts on paper—they became the concrete practice of how justice takes root and bears fruit. That experience was like a beam of light, illuminating my vision of the legal profession. After graduation, I did not rush off to distant shores; instead, I chose to return home and take up a position at a legal consulting office in Taizhou. During that year, I worked as a kind of “legal apprentice,” engaging with clients from all walks of life and handling hundreds of small yet deeply human cases. I saw the furrowed brows of migrant workers struggling to reclaim their wages, and I heard the helpless sighs of small business owners caught in contractual disputes. It was these vivid, tangible “people” and “stories” that helped me truly grasp the meaning of law: it is not merely a set of rules, but a shield that safeguards the everyday lives of ordinary people. It was also during that year that my once‑vague dream crystallized into something clear and unwavering: I wanted to become a lawyer—someone who could genuinely use the law to help others.
In the height of summer 2025, perhaps by fate’s hand, I stepped through the doors of JC Master (Nantong) Law Office, embarking on a new chapter in my life as an intern lawyer. JC Master is a highly respected office in the legal profession, boasting an outstanding team of attorneys and extensive professional resources. Here, I focused on corporate law, learning—through every detail of private lending cases, equity disputes, and contract reviews—how to translate theory into practical problem-solving wisdom. I am deeply grateful for the patient guidance of my colleagues and cherish each opportunity to draft legal documents, organize evidence, and participate in court proceedings. Gradually, I came to realize that the path of a lawyer offers no shortcuts; it demands continuous refinement through repetition and steady accumulation of insight in the minutiae of practice.
Today, I remain an apprentice on the path of law, yet I no longer fear the horizon. For I know well that every eminent barrister was once a humble intern; every ray of brilliance begins with a single spark. I am willing to start from the smallest details, wielding patience as my pen and professionalism as my ink, writing, line by line, the chapter of my own career—calm and steady, neither servile nor arrogant—until, one day, I can truly grow into a legal professional who is both compassionate and resolute, independent and highly skilled.
I have only just set out on this path. Yet the lamp of my heart is already lit, and my steps press forward without pause.
