After leaving school, I did not immediately pursue a career in law; instead, I spent more than a decade working in corporate legal affairs. For a long time, I viewed this seemingly “detour” as a significant regret. Yet looking back now, I’ve come to realize that taking a “detour” is not always a disadvantage. Each leg of the journey contributes an irreplaceable layer of life experience to personal growth. It is precisely by venturing down those less‑traveled paths that I have gained insights others cannot acquire and glimpsed vistas others never see. Specifically, over those ten-plus years, I not only honed practical expertise in cutting‑edge corporate management, corporate legal risk prevention, and litigation and arbitration, broadening my horizons, but also cultivated work habits—setting clear goals, acting decisively, thinking critically, and regularly reflecting on my progress. These accumulated skills have proved immensely valuable in my current practice as a lawyer.

“Achieving both fame and a successful career” is the expectation Director Ma Qun has for us. Professionalization is the inevitable path for lawyers in the future. Personally, I am still building up my experience and cannot yet offer concrete advice. My approach is to make professional choices that align with my own circumstances—considering my area of expertise, family networks, personal interests, financial situation, and more—and to develop a three- to five-year plan that encompasses acquiring specialized knowledge, gaining hands-on experience through cases (or projects), and cultivating relevant professional connections.

As my mentor once told me, lawyers should cultivate an even stronger sense of professional identity and social responsibility, officely shouldering their societal obligations—chiefly moral, political, and historical responsibilities.
