When one delves deeply into the realm of law, those hidden resonances concealed within steel and concrete and enshrined in statutory texts gradually come to light. As I. M. Pei once said, “Architecture is alive”—and isn’t law, too? In structural design, even a deviation of 0.1 millimeter can sow the seeds of safety hazards; similarly, a single oversight in legal drafting can tip the scales of justice. Just as engineering calculations must account for the intricate interplay of diverse loads, legal analysis likewise demands a delicate balancing act among competing interests. Though these two disciplines may seem worlds apart, they both employ uncompromising rigor to safeguard the order and humanity of their respective fields.

Leap years are instituted to reconcile differing systems of timekeeping, using time itself to bridge the discrepancies between the solar and lunar calendars. In truth, there is nothing truly “to be made up for”; as long as we do not squander the life ahead of us—by learning and striving forward—and quietly “accumulate surplus” during our low points, there will surely come a day when that surplus is enough to “complete a full year.”

“There is no such thing as a truly right choice in this world; all we can do is strive to make the choice we made back then the right one.” That was my response at the time. Perhaps, in my teacher’s eyes, it was merely a clever way of deflecting a sharp question. But over the past three years, I have indeed kept pressing forward, determined to turn my decision to study law and enter the legal profession into the right path—and I will continue to work hard, aiming to become a competent and outstanding lawyer.

“The life of the law lies not merely in logic, but even more in experience.” The gap between theory and practice can only be bridged through the accumulation of time and the refinement that comes with it; only then do we come to realize that there may be no single, definitive “winning strategy.” In our work, the level of rigor required far exceeds what one might imagine. As the saying goes, “details determine success or failure”—even a misplaced page number on an exhibit or an error in calculating the statute of limitations can leave an entire case at a disadvantage. At the same time, I am continually seeking more efficient ways to work; cultivating emotional resilience and managing expectations are skills that often prove even harder to master than technical expertise.
