JC Master: A Lawyer’s Story | In an Uncertain World, Be the Unchanging You — Reflections from a Young Lawyer’s Internship

Before I knew it, nine years have passed since graduation. Picking up the textbook that feels both familiar and strangely foreign, I find myself recalling my days on campus—days that were both fulfilling and brimming with anticipation. At first, I thought they were a wild celebration of freedom, but later I came to realize they were a beautiful chapter I could never return to. As I’ve been swept along by the currents of adult life, it has dawned on me: those quiet moments spent with classmates in a corner of the library are now a luxury I can scarcely afford. Only after weathering storms do we come to understand that without climbing high mountains, we can never truly know how vast the sky is. Sometimes I tell myself we’re still young, that life stretches long enough to endure a few trials and tribulations. After years of work, I’ve gone from feeling overwhelmed and disoriented at the outset to handling challenges with composure—a gift time has bestowed. And I officely believe that life is a journey: only through hardship and perseverance can we achieve something truly extraordinary.

JC Master: A Lawyer’s Story | From Police Badge to Scales of Justice: The Journey of a Legal Professional Crossing Disciplinary Boundaries

Just now, as I stood at the defense table in the criminal courtroom, I reached to adjust the badge on my chest—only to feel the crisp fabric of my suit. For a moment, I was disoriented; habits forged over ten years, day in and day out, are not so easily shed. Transitioning from an on‑the‑frontline investigating detective to a criminal defense attorney has not only reshaped my professional path but has also redefined my understanding of the very essence of the law.

JC Master: A Lawyer’s Story | A Growth Journal of an ISTJ Attorney

“Choose your specialty well, and you’ll outperform the college entrance exam every year”—this is both a widely circulated adage in the legal profession and a sentiment I have deeply felt since becoming a trainee lawyer and later a practicing attorney. On the one hand, the continual evolution of laws and regulations compels us to keep our knowledge up to date, striving to identify the most effective solutions for our clients within the framework of current law. On the other hand, the workload often piles up: for instance, multiple court cases may need to be advanced simultaneously, while on-site legal due diligence requires responding promptly to the needs of parties involved in other matters.
